Setsu Asakura

Born in Tokyo. Due to the policy of his sculptor father, Fumio Asakura, he does not attend school and learns from teachers in various fields who are invited to his home. Received the 3rd Uemura Shoen Prize for “Working People”. He has illustrated many picture books, including “March Hinanotsuki” and “Gongitsune”. In 1972, he won the Kodansha Publishing Culture Award (picture book category) for Switchy Neko. Since the 1960s, he has worked on more than 1,600 stage art projects, and has won numerous awards, including the 1989 Asahi Prize.
