Osechi (Japanese traditional new year’s food)

This picture book introduces the charm of Japan’s traditional New Year’s cuisine, osechi, through beautiful illustrations, conveying the wishes embedded in each dish with rhythmic words.

While times have changed and osechi dishes have become more diverse, the tradition of wishing for a safe and prosperous year at the start of the new year remains the same.

The dishes, lovingly prepared by culinary expert Kuniko Mitsuru specifically for this book, are beautifully and intricately illustrated by Yumi Uchida. At the end, the book also explains the order of arranging the dishes in the first, second, and third layers of the osechi box.
