This book has selected 662 masterpieces of Japan’s Photobook to be seen from the huge collection of photo critic Kotaro Iizawa.

From rare books to unknown independent publications, The book will introduce them with a large number of cover images. Co-authored by Shun Uchibayashi, a young photography researcher. Composed and designed by Yoshiro Nakamura, who worked on “Paris-New York-Tokyo” at Tsukuba Photo Studio 85.

From innovators in the late Edo period to photographers from Mongolia in 2020. It provides a bird’s-eye view of the “present state of photography” of each era, and is also a collection guide for “photobooks” as edited, designed, and printed objects.

Kotaro Iizawa

Photo critic. Born in Miyagi prefecture in 1954. He graduated from Nihon University College of Art, Department of Photography, and completed the doctoral course at the Graduate School of Arts, University of Tsukuba. He is known as a lover of mushrooms and has written books such as “The Complete Mushroom Literature”.
