manga artist.
Born in Kagoshima Prefecture in 1967.
In 1988, he made his debut as a manga artist with Kaede Purple, which was selected for the 35th Tezuka Prize. “SLAM DUNK”, which started serialization in “Weekly Shonen Jump” from 1990, became a big hit. In 1998, he started serializing “Vagabond” in “Morning” (Kodansha). In 1999, he started serializing “Real” about wheelchair basketball in “Weekly Young Jump”. In 2006, he founded the Slam Dunk Scholarship. In 2022, his first directorial work, the movie “THE FIRST SLAM DUNK” will be released.
