Author profile

Ai Nakamura

Born in 1980 in Saitama Prefecture. She completed her Master’s course in Japanese Painting at the Tokyo University of the Arts, Graduate School of Fine Arts, after graduating from the Department of Japanese Painting, Faculty of Fine Arts, at the same university. She presides over the painting class “Atelier AI”. She teaches at NHK Culture, Asahi Culture, Seven Academy (Sekai Bunka Publishing), and holds one-day workshops in various places including Tokyo, Sapporo, Nagoya, Osaka, Kobe, Takamatsu, and Hiroshima.

She is also famous for her love of polar bears and pandas, and has been painting them in watercolors for about three years, with over 200 pieces created.

Her watercolor works, based on Japanese painting techniques and featuring beautiful, serene colors, have gained international attention as uniquely Japanese art.
