This art book reveals how “Earwig and the Witch,” the first full 3DCG Studio Ghibli film, was created. The origins of the characters, including the main character Earwig (Āya), the witch Bella Yaga, and the enormously powerful Mandrake, are also introduced in all color.

The book also includes a long interview with director Goro Miyazaki, covering such topics as “Planning,” “People,” and “Story and Stage,” as well as a vast number of image boards, art boards, character setting drawings, and more.

There are also sketches and setting drawings by Katsuya Kondo, who was in charge of character design. The many detailed 3DCGs, completed through repeated trial and error, are introduced along with words from Hiroki Takeuchi, a key figure in the background art.
