This book features a total of 33 works by Hiroshi Nagai, encompassing early works and depicting the wind, the sun, the earth, water, air, and flowers, as well as music, in a journey to the north.

Hiroshi Nagai, a popular illustrator who has been active since the 1970s, is best known for his jacket work on the timeless album “A LONG VACATION,” among numerous other record covers and advertisements. His illustrations of American landscapes like pools, modernist houses, roadsides, and palm trees, depicted with strong colors and contrasts, are remembered by people of all ages worldwide. They evoke feelings of seasons and freedom, increasingly seen on T-shirts, merchandise, CD jackets, and books.

In this book, Nagai, primarily known for his tropical and clear landscape illustrations, selects works inspired by the majestic nature of Hokkaido he visited. These works mainly focus on landscapes that evoke the image of ‘TRAVELLING NORTH’ — a journey from summer to autumn to winter to spring.

It includes many works not often seen in exhibitions, such as landscapes without palm trees, which are the main motif. The philosophy of ‘nostalgia,’ a characteristic and a cornerstone of Hiroshi Nagai’s work, is also intricately woven throughout the book.
