This book is the official catalog of the exhibition “Noboru Baba 20 Years After Death”, which introduces Noboru Baba, a manga artist known for the picture book “Eleven Hungry Cats” series.
(The exhibition was held from July 25, 2021 to September 12, 2021 at the Nerima Art Museum , Tokyo.)
There are plenty of newly discovered color manga, which seems to be the origin of the “Eleven Hungry Cats” series, various picture books, children’s manga, adult manga, and children’s works. The materials at the end of the book, such as a list of works, are also substantial.

Noboru Baba
(1927-2001)
Born in Sannohe Town, Aomori Prefecture, moved to Tokyo in 1949 with the aim of becoming a manga artist.
In 1950, he was one of the first to write a serialized manga in a boys’ magazine, and became popular with Osamu Tezuka and Eiichi Fukui. While serializing in a manga magazine for adults, he gradually moves to the world of picture books.
Published in 1967, “Eleven Hungry Cats” (Kogumasha) has become a long-selling product and has been loved for generations through various media such as character goods and puppet shows as well as picture books.
