A collection of works focusing on the “lines” of manga artist Atsushi Kamijo, who has reached the 40th anniversary of his career.
This collection explores the essence of “lines” by contrasting the differences in lines at each process stage, from rough sketches and preliminary drawings to the final forms (with and without inking). The artist’s own discussions on expression and technique, centered around lines, are also invaluable.
The screen space depicted with stoic lines, devoid of unnecessary elements, creates a unique tension through the contrast of intricate details and bold omissions, coupled with stylish character portrayals that have captivated many. While “lines” have always been central to Kamijo’s expression, there has been significant evolution and deepening in their nature. Especially since he began focusing on exhibitions, his range of expression has expanded, including finishing with pencil lines without inking and incorporating digital effects.
