This is the first book of drawings by Akira Minagawa, founding designer of the brand Mina Perhonen. The book is a two-volume collection of 630 illustrations that were not originally drawn for textiles, but were commissioned by newspapers.
Kaoru Kasai was in charge of the art direction of the book, including the boxed binding and the simple yet beautiful layout of one illustration per page.
The “Let’s Go to the Forest” volume contains all of the color illustrations for Hiromi Kawakami’s long novel “Let’s Go to the Forest,” which was serialized in the Nihon Keizai Shimbun from January 2016 to February 2017 (including the illustrations drawn for the cover when the book was published), and the “Thoughts on Sunday” volume contains the illustrations from the Asahi Shimbun’s “Sunday Thoughts” column, which has continued to this day from April 2016. The “Sunday Thoughts” volume contains all of the black-and-white illustrations for the Asahi Shimbun’s “Sunday Thoughts” column, which has been ongoing since April 2016, through December 2021.
Included is an interview with Hitoyuki Matsuke (interviewer), in which he talks about his sincere thoughts on painting, including his psychology when painting, what materials he uses, and the relationship with his main profession of fashion design. All in Japanese.
All of this book is shrink-wrapped to protect the main body.
