Tadanori Yokoo
Born in 1936 in Hyogo Prefecture. A contemporary artist. Held a solo exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, in 1972. Subsequently participated in biennales in various countries, including Paris, Venice, and São Paulo, and held solo exhibitions at museums both in Japan and abroad. Opened the Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art, Tadanori Yokoo Museum of Contemporary Art, in 2012, and the Teshima Yokoo House in 2013. Major awards and honors include the Mainichi Art Award, induction into the New York ADC Hall of Fame, the Medal with Purple Ribbon, the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette, the Asahi Prize, and the Praemium Imperiale. Named an Honorary Citizen of Tokyo in 2022, and in 2023 was selected as a member of the Japan Art Academy and designated as a Person of Cultural Merit.
