Noboru Baba
(1927-2001)
Born in Sannohe Town, Aomori Prefecture, moved to Tokyo in 1949 with the aim of becoming a manga artist.
In 1950, he was one of the first to write a serialized manga in a boys’ magazine, and became popular with Osamu Tezuka and Eiichi Fukui. While serializing in a manga magazine for adults, he gradually moves to the world of picture books.
Published in 1967, “Eleven Hungry Cats” (Kogumasha) has become a long-selling product and has been loved for generations through various media such as character goods and puppet shows as well as picture books.
