fashion designer. Founder of KENZO, a global brand. Born in Himeji City, Hyogo Prefecture in 1939. After dropping out of Kobe City University of Foreign Studies, he studied fashion design at Bunka Fashion College and won the 8th Soen Award in 1960. After that, he went to France in 1964. In 1970 he opened a boutique in Paris and presented his first collection under his brand “JUNGLE JAP”. In 1973, he made his debut in Paris ready-to-wear under the name “KENZO”. He has held collections in New York and Tokyo and has won numerous awards such as the “Japan Editors Club Award”.
Moved to Victor, where his KENZO shop is located as of 1976. Received the “Medal of Arts and Culture (Chevalier)” from the French government in 1984. 1987 Established “Kenzo Parfum”. 1988 Announced his first fragrance “Sasambo”. 1993 Sold the brand to LVMH. He continues his creative activities as a designer.
1998 Received the “Order of Arts and Culture” from the French government. Received the “Time for Peace Award (Fashion Category)” in New York in 1999. In 1999 he received the Medal with Purple Ribbon. That same year he retired from the KENZO designer. In 2004, he was awarded the “Great Gold Medal of the City of Paris”, a high-ranking medal in Paris. He designed the official clothing for the Japan at the Olympic Games in Athens. Received “Region Donour Medal” and “Philippine Legion of Honor (Chevalier)” from the French government in 2016.
