Eiko Ishioka

Born in Tokyo in 1938. Art director and designer.

She joined Shiseido after graduating from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts. She stands out in the summer campaign (1966), which has become a social phenomenon.

Even after independence, she has worked on numerous historical advertisements such as Parco and Kadokawa Shoten. She moved her base to New York in the early 1980s and has been active in a wide range of fields including film, opera, circus, theater and music videos.

She won the Grammy Award for the jacket design of Miles Davis “TUTU” (1987) and the Academy Award for Best Costume Design for the costume of the movie “Dracula” (1993).

She was in charge of costume design at the opening ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. She passed away in 2012.
