Author profile
Makoto Dobashi
He is a researcher of Japanese traditional candy store culture, born and raised in Asakusa, Tokyo.
During the 1980s, he spent his impressionable youth in downtown Tokyo, frequenting candy stores. In 2011, he happened upon a small candy store. Struck by the beauty he hadn’t noticed in his childhood, he resumed his visits to candy stores.
He sought out candy stores in an analog style, relying on sight and sound and on foot, and gathered stories from the owners. His blog, in which he introduced the current state of candy stores, gained attention.
While working as a company employee, he has appeared in numerous media outlets and continues to share the current culture of candy stores.
