Author profile
Suna Fujita
Shohei Fujita and Chisato Yamano have worked in collaboration since 2005 as the duo “Suna Fujita.”
Shohei Fujita: Born in Wakayama Prefecture in 1968. Completes master’s course in ceramics at Kyoto City
University of Arts in 1995 and studies in the UK.
Fujita’s Sekka (“stone fruit”) works are extremely delicate and glassy, the product of a technique in which
he repeatedly applies glaze to a clay form and fires it to build up many layers of glaze, then carves away sections of the surface.
Chisato Yamano: Born in Osaka Prefecture in 1977. Graduates from Kyoto City University of Arts with
degree in ceramics in 2003, completing a master’s course in ceramics at the same university in 2005.
Using animals and plants as her main motifs, she creates fantasy worlds consisting of a mix of free, creative
images of the ordinary and extraordinary based on her own experiences and memories.
