Shigeyoshi Inoue
He was born in 1939 in Himeji, Hyogo Prefecture. Since 1963, he has been collecting and researching Japanese traditional folk toys and established a toy museum on his own in 1974. He has built a toy museum that currently houses and exhibits 90,000 items in six buildings, both domestic and international.
Motivated by his belief in shining a light on children’s and women’s culture, he has also collected and researched crepe fabric crafts, amassing over 3,000 items. Since 1986, he has been working to popularize and improve the quality of crepe fabric crafts.
He has received awards such as the Hyogo Prefecture Culture Award, the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award for Regional Cultural Merit, and the Suntory Regional Culture Award.
