A groundbreaking monograph that makes full use of a wealth of valuable materials, along with long-term interviews and testimonies of people involved, centering on works from the early days to recent works.

From Tohoku as roots, boyhood encounter with music, Aichi Prefectural University of the Arts, training in Germany, conflict in the 2000s with enthusiastic support, return to the north triggered by the Great East Japan Earthquake, and thoughts on the future is divided into 5 chapters. The result is a close collaboration between Yoshitomo Nara and an art historian active in borderless areas of Asia, Europe and the United States.

Born in Hirosaki City, Aomori Prefecture in 1959. Artist. 1987 Completed master’s course at Aichi University of the Arts. In 1988, he entered the Düsseldorf Academy of Arts in Germany, and after graduation he continued to create works based in Cologne. After returning to Japan in 2000, he energetically produced works and continued to present them at exhibitions in Japan and abroad.
