“touching FOLON Book2” is a book that allows you to “feel” Folon through photographs taken in pursuit of him and words that capture his presence.
Jean-Michel Folon (1934-2005) was a Belgian artist known for his humorous line drawings, beautiful colors, fantastical worldviews, and powerful messages that served as warnings to humanity.
Embark on a journey to “feel” Folon in this book. Starting from the house in the small village of Burcy near Paris, which Folon loved, with its soft light streaming into the renovated farmhouse studio and the vast countryside visible through the large window in the main house, to his steps from Paris to Brussels, where he gained a foothold in the world. It includes photos of his giant subway station murals, the beautiful forests and lakes of La Hulpe in the suburbs, and the paintings and sculptures displayed in the Folon Foundation established on the grounds.
Photographer Wahei Kimura traced Folon’s footsteps and captured them on film. The book is woven with Folon’s diverse works, from pen to brush, from flat surfaces to three-dimensional forms, and Kimura’s photographs.
The final chapter of the journey features poems by Kiyonatsu Osaki. It is an attempt to feel Folon’s presence through words, soaring from the visual experience provided by the artworks and photographs.
