The first collection of works by sculptor Takahiro Komuro, who has been featured as a notable artist in magazines like “BRUTUS”.
His Komuro World bursts with enthusiasm for his pop and kitsch style, using vivid colors in statues reminiscent of monsters and mythical creatures.
The collection showcases a variety of quirky yet endearing characters, polished and painted in vivid colors. These characters, including dragons, Rokurokubi, and multi-headed monsters, are crafted from a myriad of inspirations, including superhero and sci-fi movie characters from his childhood American comics and legendary creatures from the books he avidly read.
His works possess a pop and kitsch, yet somehow sacred, inexplicable worldview. They are filled with Komuro’s meticulous artistic skills, sensibility, and detailed research.
The charm of Komuro’s works, akin to a kind of ‘magic’, has garnered support not just in the art world but also among figure fans both in Japan and internationally.

Author profile
Takahiro Komuro
Sculptor. Born in Tokyo in 1985. Completed a master’s program in sculpture at the Tokyo University of the Arts Graduate School of Fine Arts in 2011.
Influenced by American comics, sci-fi and horror movies, figures, and art toys he saw in his childhood, he creates large-scale wood carvings that are both pop & kitsch yet have a dark side.
His wood carvings caught the eye of an art toy company in Los Angeles, leading to the release of soft vinyl (sofubi) works based on his wood carvings. These became explosively popular in America, bringing worldwide attention to Komuro’s works. While he continues to produce sofubi, his main focus remains on his sculpture works.
In 2020, he established his own studio, TkoM Factory.
His main solo exhibitions include “WILDERNESS” (The Anzai Gallery, Tokyo, 2022) and “WHITE HOLE” (The Anzai Gallery, Tokyo, 2021). In December 2023, he will hold solo exhibitions in London and Tokyo (Ginza Tsutaya Bookstore GINZA ARTIUM).
