Author profile
Shintaro Kago
A Japanese manga artist, primarily known for writing adult-oriented manga, was born in Tokyo. He debuted in 1988 in COMIC BOX. He self-identifies as a bizarre manga artist, creating worlds of madness not just limited to subgenres like erotic, grotesque, macabre, scatological, and horror. He delves into human body modification and destruction as central themes in his work.
While sometimes addressing subjects like the Soviet Union and the Pacific War, he is particularly skilled in constructing science fiction and metafictional narratives. His style often centers around black humor and a poisonous wit, as seen in works like “Ekimae Bride.”
Since 2002, he has expanded his activities, participating in events and holding solo exhibitions, energetically showcasing morally questionable and indelicate materials.
In 2010, he won the Third World Bakamis☆Award for “Fraction.” In 2013, he received an award at the 19th “Salon del MANGA de BARCELONA” (Spain) as a Japanese manga artist with significant contributions and topicality in the Spanish manga community.
In 2014, he worked on the artwork for “You’re Dead!” by LA-based artist Flying Lotus. Currently, he continues to publish abnormal works, primarily in Seirin Kogeisha’s manga magazine “AX.”
