“Memories of Travel” written by textile artist Samiro Yunoki.
In 1967, driven by his admiration for medieval European art, Yunoki embarked on a two-month journey through Europe with a notebook and sketchbook in hand. Each page reveals foreign landscapes captured by his keen eye and warm interactions with the people he encountered along the way.

Samiro Yunoki
Dyeing artist / artist. Born in Tokyo in 1922. In 1942, he entered the Department of Aesthetics and Art History, Faculty of Letters, Tokyo Imperial University. In 1946, he worked at the Ohara Museum of Art in Okayama Prefecture, met Soetsu Yanagi’s “Mingei”, and studied under Keisuke Serizawa to become a dyer. She was a professor at Joshibi University of Art and Design in 1972 and president since 1987. In addition to dyeing, she produces and presents various works such as prints, dolls, and picture books. She holds exhibitions at public museums in Japan as well as at the Guimet Oriental Museum in France.
