Author profile
Chinami Nakajima
He was born in 1945 (Showa 20) in Obuse, Nagano Prefecture, where he had been evacuated. His father was the Japanese painter Kiyoshi Nakajima. He graduated from the Graduate School of Tokyo University of the Arts in 1971. During his studies, he was first selected for the Inten exhibition and subsequently received numerous awards. In addition to series focusing on human subjects such as [Shujo] and [Keitai], he has engaged with a wide variety of themes including bird-and-flower paintings featuring cherry blossoms. While remaining within the tradition of Japanese painting, he has not been content with convention, continually seeking new modes of expression for the contemporary era and celebrating a world of original beauty. He is currently an emeritus professor at Tokyo University of the Arts and an executive director of the Japan Artists Association.
