This is the long-awaited first art collection of Mahiro Maeda, known for his work on the ‘Rebuild of Evangelion’ series, featuring over 100 pieces, including previously unreleased works, and covering approximately 30 projects to comprehensively document and record his career.
Maeda’s diverse body of work spans beyond animation, including ‘Gunbuster,’ the Heisei Gamera Trilogy, ‘Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo,’ the ‘Evangelion’ series, ‘Mad Max: Fury Road,’ and ‘Shin Godzilla,’ among others. His contributions include design, art direction, and costume work for both animated and live-action productions, with his influence extending domestically and internationally.
This book gathers as much material as possible, from initial concept sketches created during the planning stages to intermediate works produced during refinement and even large-format illustrations. It also sheds light on the individuality of Mahiro Maeda as both an artist and a person, drawing connections between historical context, anime history, and the words of those who lived through this era alongside him. This unparalleled collection reflects on Maeda and the vast array of works he has contributed to.
